For Roy Halladay, the honor capped off a season that saw him throw a perfect game in Florida last May and open the playoffs with a no-hitter against the Cincinnati Reds. Halladay had an impressive season, leading the league in victories (21), innings pitched (250 2/3), complete games (9), shutouts (4) and was second in the league in strikeouts with 219.
St. Louis Cardinals starter Adam Wainwright was a distant second in the voting, followed by Ubaldo Jimenez of the Colorado Rockies.
Halladay's teammate, Roy Oswalt, who split his season between Houston and the Phillies, finished sixth in the voting and former Phillie Brett Myers finished tied for tenth, with one fourth place vote to his credit.
