Veteran right-hander Dave Bush signed a minor league deal with the Phillies last August and pitched pretty well at Triple-A Lehigh Valley, posting a mark of 1-2 with a 3.91 ERA. This spring, Bush hoped to get a better look in camp, with the hopes of winning a job as a long reliever in the Phillies bullpen. Those hopes were dashed when Bush was told he was being sent to the minor league camp so he could stretch out and likely rejoin Lehigh Valley to open the season.
Bush knows the business of baseball and said he understands the decision, although he was disappointed at not having gotten much of an opportunity to pitch in big league camp.
Joining Bush on the first list of cuts were fellow pitchers Austin Hyatt, B.J. Rosenberg, J.C. Ramirez and Pat Misch, catcher Sebastian Valle, infielders Harold Garcia and Cesar Hernandez and outfielder Tyson Gillies.
Garcia, who underwent knee surgery last week and will miss four to six months, was removed from the 40-man roster, while Hernandez, Valle, Ramirez and Gillies remain on the Phillies’ 40-man roster. Bush, Hyatt, Rosenberg and Misch were all in camp on minor league deals.
