Top Prospect #28: OF Javon Moran

The Phillies need for speed drove their first three picks in the 2003 June Draft. Javon Moran was the last of those picks – which actually fell in the fifth round – but Moran has shown himself to be a solid pick that the Phillies believe will mature quickly. While Michael Bourn emerged as the real top pick of the draft and the early favorite, Tim Moss stumbled in his professional debut and Moran was simply consistent and came through with good reviews.

Javon Moran posted huge numbers in his final two seasons at Auburn. Over those seasons, he hit a combined .351 and stole 44 bases. On the basis of those two seasons and the development that scouts saw in his game, Moran's value climbed as the 2003 Draft neared.
