Just one day after being voted onto the National League All-Star team by the fans, Bobby Abreu delivered a thank you. Abreu delivered a game-tying hit and then a walk-off homerun to lead off the ninth inning as the Phillies beat the Mets 5-4.

Bobby Abreu finished his first full night as an all-star going 4-5 and delivered both the game tying and game winning hits for the Phillies in their 5-4 win over the Mets.

"If anybody doesn't think (Abreu) deserves to be an All-Star, they haven't been watching what he's been doing lately," Phillies manager Larry Bowa said.

The Phillies split their four-game series with the Mets, who would have moved into a tie for first in the NL East with a win.

Abreu, who also had two doubles and three RBI, sent the second pitch by John Franco (2-5) over the wall in left-center field to abruptly end the game, handing the Mets just their second loss in eight games.

Abreu's three RBI gave him 60 on the season, joining Pat Burrell and Jim Thome, both with 61, to become the first trio in Phillies history with at least 60 RBI prior to the All-Star break.

Phillies closer Billy Wagner (2-0) pitched a perfect top of the ninth to pick up the win.

The Mets took a 4-3 lead on a two-run homer by Mike Cameron off Phillies starter Kevin Millwood in the sixth, but failed to add to their lead in the seventh off reliever Ryan Madson.

Richard Hidalgo singled to extend his hitting streak to 11 games and put runners on first and third with one out, but Ty Wigginton grounded into an inning-ending double play.

Philadelphia evened the score one inning later when Jimmy Rollins drew a leadoff walk against former Phillie Ricky Bottalico, advanced to second on Placido Polanco's single and scored when Abreu greeted Mike Stanton with a base hit to right field.

Cameron prevented further damage when he made a diving catch on David Bell's flare to center field with the bases loaded.

New York took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a double by Kaz Matsui. After Mets starter Matt Ginter retired nine of the first ten batters he faced, the Phillies got to him in the fourth when Thome belted his major league-leading 28th homerun, a two-run shot to right center to give the Phils a 2-1 advantage.

New York's Cliff Floyd tied it with an RBI single in the fifth before Abreu answered in the bottom half with a two-out RBI double that regained the lead for Philadelphia.

The Phillies are 7-4 on their season-high 14-game homestand and start a three-game series with Atlanta leading up to the All-Star break. The Braves are two games behind the Phillies. Eric Milton (11-2, 4.48) will get the start Friday night against John Thomson (6-7, 4.97).

The Braves come into the series just two games behind the Phillies in the NL East.
