Top Dominican Prospect Chooses Phillies
Garcia was set to participate in the Wood Bat Association Tournament in Florida, but was signed by the Phillies just before the event. It's likely that Garcia will start his professional career in either the Gulf Coast League or New York-Penn League when those short-season leagues begin play next summer.
Garcia's fastball has been generally clocked in the low 90 mile per hour range, but he is most noted for his slider. Scouts have reported that he consistently throws his slider in the 80-85 mile per hour range with good control and movement. The Phillies, and other major league clubs, were impressed with his solid mechanics.
