Phils Dig The Longball To Beat Twins

The Phillies got homeruns from Jimmy Rollins and Chase Utley on Thursday as they beat the Minnesota Twins 6-3. The win was just the second of the spring for the Phillies, who have struggled in the early going. The good news is that the pitching has continued to look pretty good.

Jimmy Rollins has learned that he's not a prolific homerun hitter. That doesn't mean that he can't launch one every now and then. Thursday against Brad Radke, Rollins connected on a three-run shot to give the Phillies a 4-0 lead over the Twins.

Chase Utley is more of a prolific homerun hitter than Rollins and he helped the effort with a homerun that landed just inside the right field foul pole off Joe Mays.

Starter Jon Lieber was touched for three runs in the third inning. Lieber pitched four innings, giving up seven hits and one walk. Lieber is now 1-0, 3.86 in two spring starts.

Ryan Madson, Geoff Geary, Aaron Fultz and Amaury Telemaco pitched the final five innings, allowing just four hits and no runs. Telemaco gave up two hits in the ninth, but was credited with a save.

Rollins went 2-for-4 on the day and is now hitting .313 this spring. The Phillies got more offense from Jose Offerman, who returned to the lineup after suffering a strained oblique muscle last weekend. Offerman collected three hits - a double and two singles - and is hitting .429 in his bid to make the major league roster.
