Floyd is Strong, Adams Isn't; Phils Lose 3-2
Terry Adams: A tough day.
Terry Adams: A tough day.

Posted Mar 21, 2005

The intrigue over exactly what to do with Gavin Floyd continues. The young pitcher had a strong outing, even though he didn't have his best stuff. Meanwhile, Terry Adams was hit for two runs and suffered the loss as the Twins came from behind to beat the Phillies 3-2 Monday afternoon.

The pitching line for Gavin Floyd isn't completely pretty. Five walks in five innings, but on the plus side, he allowed just one hit and struck out four. The end result was a lot of pitching with runners on base, but just one run over five innings of work.

The outing brought Floyd's spring ERA down to 3.18. If you're looking for a negative, he has walked 9 in 17 innings of work.

Terry Adams gave up four hits and a walk over two innings. Adams spring mark is now 0-1, 4.00 in nine innings of work. Adams gave up a sacrifice fly to former Phillie Nick Punto in the seventh as the Twins tied the game before taking a lead an inning later. Billy Wagner pitched a perfect ninth inning and Aaron Fultz added another perfect inning of work to drop his ERA to 2.08 in his quest to add his name to the bullpen roster for opening day.

Placido Polanco hit leadoff because Jimmy Rollins was out of the game with a sore knee, suffered in Saturday's game. Polanco had two doubles and scored a first inning run on Jose Offerman's RBI single.
