The Surprise Scorpions have cooled off after their fast start, but are still an impressive 7-4 and hold a two-game lead over Mesa in the American Division. Phillies' prospects have had a part in the Scorpions success and the early returns are pretty good for the five young Phillies in the AFL.

Michael Bourn has played in six of the eleven games for the Scorpions. Bourn went 1-for-3 on Monday, upping his average to .296 on the season. The impressive stat is that in six games, Bourn has driven in eight runs. He's also scored four more runs, of course hitting ahead of the Angels' Brandon Wood, who leads the AFL with nine homeruns can't hurt when you're looking to score runs.

Scott Mathieson leads the Scorpions in innings pitched with 11 1/3 over three starts, which is also good enough for second in the league. Mathieson has been a strikeout maching, whiffing 22 hitters to lead the AFL while walking just four on the season. Mathieson has yet to record a decision, but his 3.18 ERA is among the league leaders, placing him third in the league.

Ryan Cameron leads the Scorpions with five appearances through the first 11 games. Cameron was touched for a run in the ninth inning of Surprise's 9-2 loss to Peoria on Monday. Cameron has suffered with some control issues, walking four in 6 1/3 innings, but he's also struck out nine on the season. Cameron stands at 0-0, 4.26 with 6 1/3 innings of work.

Brian Sanches has had just one weak outing and suffered a loss, although his overall stats are strong. In four outings, Sanches has a 1.29 ERA and has pitched seven innings for Surprise.

Travis Minix continues his impressive streak pitching out of the Scorpions' bullpen. The right-hander has thrown 5 2/3 innings over four outings and has allowed just five baserunners - three hits and two walks - and has struck out five. Minix has yet to give up an earned run and is 1-0 on the AFL season.
