Player Projection: Brett Myers

Player Projection: Brett Myers

Brett Myers seems to be coming into a groove when he'll become one of the more dominating pitchers in the National League. His emergence is a little behind schedule, but his climb is a welcome sight to the Phillies.

It's sort of peculiar that Charlie Manuel hasn't named his Opening Day pitcher just yet. It was sort of assumed that it would be Jon Lieber, but Brett Myers is doing all he can to win the assignment. Publicly, both say that they're not concerned about who pitches where, but you have to figure that both would like to have the honor. Naming Myers as the Opening Day starter would be much like passing the baton; the younger, up-and-coming star surpasses the veteran, battle-tested ace.

As Myers came through the system, everybody knew he had talent and he was supposed to become the ace of a talented young staff at some point in his career. That point took a little longer to arrive, but it could be here now.

One of Myers' biggest obstacles has been his attitude, which he seems to have gotten under control. Now, with his mental approach right, his true talent is coming through and gives the Phillies a lot of hope for the future.
