Carlos Carrasco is still just 19 years old, but he knows how to pitch with the big boys. The right-hander went 3-1 with a 2.18 ERA in six May starts for Lakewood and struck out 45 hitters in 41 1/3 innings of work. He put together three wins in a row from May 7th to the 18th and struck out 26 hitters in his 21 1/3 innings of work.
Opponents hit just .192 against Carrasco in May.
Kyle Kendrick, who is now pitching at Clearwater, was the winner of the Pitcher of the Month Award in April when he was a member of the BlueClaws.
Newcomer John Urick, Lakewood's first baseman, won the award for the Player of the Month. Urick signed as a minor league free agent after being released by the Yankees in late April and has been a nice addition to the Phillies' organization. The 24 year old hit safely in 22 of 29 games in May, batting .321 for the month. Late in the month he put together a seven game hitting streak to cement the award and chipped in with 11 multi-hit games for Lakewood.
The left-handed hitter was drafted by the Yankees in the 22nd round of the 2003 Draft.
