Phils Claim Braves' Bohn on Waivers

Posted Sep 25, 2007

The Phillies made a minor move to add a warm body to their bench, claiming outfielder T.J. Bohn on waivers from the Atlanta Braves.

T.J. Bohn is another player who was originally drafted by Phillies GM Pat Gillick. The 27 year old Bohn has played in 18 major league games with the Mariners, all of them coming in 2006. This past season, Bohn started the year at Triple-A Richmond, hitting .241 in 46 games. He split the rest of the season between the Gulf Coast League and Double-A ball. His combined 2007 stats in the minors had him hitting .249 with 3 home runs and 25 RBI in 80 games. He stole 12 bases and was thrown out six times. Bohn played in his sixth minor league season in 2007 and has a career average of .278 in the minors. His major league average stands at .143 with just 14 at bats.

The Phillies cleared room for Bohn on the 40-man roster by moving reliever Yoel Hernandez to the 60-day disabled list.

Ironically, the Phillies main competitor for a playoff spot, the San Diego Padres, also acquired an outfielder Tuesday. The Padres will send a player to be named later or cash to the Houston Astros for outfielder Jason Lane, who hit just .178 for Houston in limited playing time this season. The deal was the first for new Astros GM Ed Wade, who made the swap with the Padres, who were his last employer before he took over in Houston.
