Welinson Baez continues to slide

This year, Philly Baseball News has expanded our look at Phillies prospects by expanding our usual list of 50 prospects to the top 75 prospects in the Phillies organization. Here's a look at prospects #51-75.

  • 51.Francisco Murillo, OF,1B - His offense should come around, but just where will Murillo play on the field?
  • 52.Matt Rizzotti, 1B - The hard hitting first baseman has good size and natural power.
  • 53.T.J. Warren, OF - Some offensive questions, but Warren may have the best outfield arm in the organization.
  • 54.Michael Durant, 1B - He's got to find a way to solve the questions that surround his offensive potential.
  • 55.Michael Taylor, OF - The Phillies liked him as a high schooler, but waited until he had a successful career at Stanford to draft him.
  • 56.Welinson Baez, 3B - Once ranked much higher, Baez is quickly falling off the charts.
  • 57.Anderson Garcia, RHP - Consistency is an unknown thing to Garcia, who has lots of potential.
  • 58.Ron Hill, RHP - His pitches are average, but he just keeps on putting up strong numbers.
  • 59.Brett Harker, RHP - Harker's future may be as a starter, even though he was an effective closer early in his career.
  • 60.Lincoln Holdzkom, RHP - A Rule 5 pick, Holdzkom has talent, but will it be enough to stick with the Phillies?
  • 61.Zach Sterner, RHP - The 17th round pick knows how to throw strikes with all four of his pitches.
  • 62.Freddy Ballestas, RHP - The 21 year old heads for the states after a strong career in the Dominican Summer League.
  • 63.Brian Schlitter, RHP - The Phillies could be watching their closer of the future when they look at Brian Schlitter.
  • 64.Hector Made, 3B - Coming over in the Sal Fasano trade with the Yankees, Made hasn't shown that he was a worthwhile target for the Phillies.
  • 65.Joseph Rocchio, RHP Here's a kid who opened some eyes after just an average college career.
  • 66.Chris Kissock, RHP - A Canadian right-hander who put up strong numbers for Williamsport in 2007.
  • 67.Chris Rhoads, RHP - Rhoads made the transition from starting in college to working out of the bullpen in the pros.
  • 68.Nolan Mulligan, RHP - Since he'll be 23 when the 2008 season starts, time is not on his side after just one pro season and a small time college career.
  • 69.Michael Garciaparra, SS/2B - He doesn't have the raw talent that his brother was blessed with, but he might be able to help in a pinch.
  • 70.Caleb Mangum, C - He's not the best of the bunch, but could move up the Phillies long list of catching prospects.
  • 71.Tuffy Gosewisch, C - If he can find some offense to go with strong defensive skills, Gosewisch could be a true diamond in the rough.
  • 72.Mike Spidale, OF - There are some good tools, but will the Phillies ever give him a legitimate shot at even playing at the Triple-A level?
  • 73.Rich Prall, C - The Phillies are never afraid of drafting young catchers who can handle themselves well defensively and Prall fits that category perfectly.
  • 74.Jesus Villegas Andino, SS - Defense is no problem for Villegas Andino, but his offense is a question mark and he didn't supply any answers by hitting .184 in the Gulf Coast League in 2007.
  • 75.Adam Sorgi, 2B/SS - The Phillies drafted Sorgi in the 21st round of the 2007 Draft. He's got the ability to hit the ball to all fields and could develop into a decent power threat.
