Roster Shake-Up Hits LV IronPigs

Val Pascucci

After winning just three games in their first 25 attempts, the Lehigh Valley IronPigs are going to be seeing some new faces in the clubhouse. They're also saying good-bye to some familiar faces as the roster goes through some transitions.

The two biggest names highlighting the list of moves made by the Phillies to change the Triple-A roster are Val Pascucci and Joe Bisenius.

Pascucci, who was mired in a season-long slump and hitting just .232 with only one home run, found himself on the outside looking in when the Phillies released him prior to Tuesday night's game against Syracuse. Rumor around the park is that he's already signed with another team - possibly the Chicago Cubs - and will be surfacing soon. Meanwhile, Bisenius was activated from the DL and sent down to Double-A Reading. Bisenius had been sidelined with a bad toe and hadn't pitched since April 12.

Meanwhile, Travis Blackley (0-3, 6.64) was placed on the DL with a groin injury. Also exiting the Lehigh Valley IronPigs is outfielder Mike Spidale, who was also sent down to Reading.

T.J. Bohn returns to the Lehigh Valley IronPigs after a stint in the majors, which ended when the Phillies activated outfielder Shane Victorino from the DL. The 'Pigs also added pitcher Jason Anderson and outfielder Rich Thompson. Both were playing at Reading, but Thompson had just gotten there this past weekend after signing a minor league free agent contract with the Phillies. A new face will be surfacing soon in Lehigh Valley. Oscar Robles was claimed off waivers from the San Diego Padres and was assigned to Lehigh Valley, but he hasn't reported yet and hasn't been officially added to the roster. Robles, an infielder, was hitting just .208 in 14 games with Triple-A Portland.

The hope is that some moves may turn things around for the 'Pigs, who at 3-22 have the worst record in minor league baseball. Lehigh Valley starts a two-game series against Syracuse Tuesday night at home, with J.A. Happ (0-3, 4.44) on the mound.
