Segovia Released

Zack Segovia is looking to latch on elsewhere now that his injury-plagued career with the Phillies is officially over. The Phillies released the right-hander after another rough outing.

Zack Segovia pitched for Clearwater Tuesday night and again ran into trouble. Issuing five earned runs in six innings pushed his ERA at Clearwater up to 5.35 and his combined mark between Clearwater and Reading up to 6.46 this season. Segovia, was plagued by injury after injury during his Phillies career, starting with Tommy John surgery early in his career.

Last fall, Segovia had more shoulder surgery and was said to be throwing without pain early in the season, but he was never able to get on track.

After starting the season in extended camp, Segovia was sent to Double-A Reading and made four appearances there before being moved down to Clearwater where he made his 7th and final start Tuesday night.

A corresponding move to fill Segovia's roster spot hasn't been announced, but it could signal a promotion for Drew Naylor, who ironically was also hit hard in his last outing on Monday night, but has a 5-3, 2.99 mark for the Lakewood BlueClaws on the season.

Clearwater catcher Alan Robbins, who was hitting just .198 in 25 games with the Threshers was promoted to Double-A Reading.
