Sebastian Valle launched a first inning two-run home run to get the GCL Phillies offense started and they coasted from there for a 9-0 win over the GCL Nationals and a league championship.
The improbable run to the title started earlier in the day when the Phils battled back from a 1-0 deficit to win the first game of a championship double-header. In Game One, it was also Valle who chipped in with a key, two-run double that gave the Phillies a 2-1 lead.
In the nightcap, starter Reginal Simon started shaky and had to work out of a bases-loaded jam in the first inning before he would be able to settle in for the day. Simon was finished after six innings, giving up three hits and a walk. Yohan Flande came on to pitch the seventh inning - both ends of the double-header were seven innings - and allowed a walk, but struck out two to finish off the Nats.
Valle was the star of the series for the Phillies. The 18 year old catcher caught both ends of the double-header and finished the regular season with a .281 average.
