Phillies Swap Catchers With Pittsburgh

After letting the media know that there was a trade to be announced, but he couldn't announce it yet, Ruben Amaro finally delivered the goods.

At first, Ruben Amaro would only say that he has made "a smaller trade that might be a notch about Golson for Mayberry." At that point, he was awaiting word on physicals of the players involved and would only elaborate that both players were on their respective team's 40 man rosters.

The Phillies acquired catcher Ronny Paulino from the Pirates for minor league catcher Jason Jaramillo. The deal could set up a trade of Chris Coste to the Cubs or possibly a deal to send Paulino to the Florida Marlins, who were trying to get him earlier in the day.
It turned out that the Phillies sent minor league catcher Jason Jaramillo to Pittsburgh for veteran catcher Ronny Paulino. It's possible that Paulino could be shipped elsewhere, since he had been the subject of a rumored deal to the Florida Marlins. The Phillies have also been rumored to be sending catcher Chris Coste elsewhere in a deal.

Jaramillo played at Triple-A Lehigh Valley in 2008 and hit .266 with eight home runs. Jaramillo has yet to make his major league debut.

Paulino has spent four seasons in the majors and is a career .278 hitter, who slipped to .212 last season with Pittsburgh.
