Phillies Get Moyer On Two-Year Deal

The Phillies and Jamie Moyer took longer than expected, but in the end, they reached an agreement on a two-year deal. The signing brings back the Phillies leader in wins from the 2008 season.

The Phillies and Jamie Moyer did what everybody thought they would do weeks ago. They agreed on a deal for the 2009 season and even went a year further. The two sides agreed on a two-year deal, which was announced just hours after the Phillies reached an agreement on a one-year deal with right-hander Chan Ho Park.

By signing both Moyer and Park, the Phillies have likely completed their shopping for starting pitching this off-season. Moyer will stay in the rotation and Park will battle with Kyle Kendrick, J.A. Happ and possibly, Carlos Carrasco for the fifth spot in the rotation.

Terms of Moyer's deal weren't announced, but he had been seeking a two-year, $18 million deal. The Phillies had offered two years and $15 million on Friday and it's likely that the terms are somewhere near that range.

Moyer led the Phillies with 16 wins last season and posted a 3.71 ERA in 33 starts for the club. Moyer has started 30 or more games in each of the last eight seasons and has collected 246 career wins. Recommended Stories
