Jeremy Slayden apparently likes hanging out with the big league club. He provided some offense Wednesday, picking up two of the Phillies seven hits - a single and a double - and scoring a run in their 8-2 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates. No other Phillie collected more than one hit in the game.
Jamie Moyer pitched two innings and allowed a hit and two walks, but also struck out two. Another piece of the Phillies starting rotation, Joe Blanton, pitched an inning and gave up a run on two hits. The loss went to Joe Bisenius (0-1), who was hammered for four earned runs in one inning of work, with the big blast coming in the form of a three-run home run by Shelby Ford.
Raul Ibanez picked up his first hit and RBI for the Phillies in his second at bat, when he drove in Jimmy Rollins. John Mayberry added the only other RBI when he drove home Slayden with a base hit in the ninth.
The Phillies play their home opener of the spring Thursday against the Toronto Blue Jays.
