The Phillies continue looking for pitchers and found a veteran starter who can at least provide a little insurance from Triple-A. Jason Standridge signed a minor league deal with the Phillies and will likely spend the year at Lehigh Valley.

Jason Standridge is one of those guys that you may have heard something about here or there. Or maybe, you got him in a pack of baseball cards and figured, "oh, great".

Well, Standridge has been around baseball since being drafted by the Tampa Bay Rays in the first round - 31st overall pick - of the 1997 Draft. He spent parts of four seasons in the majors with Tampa before spending half-a-season with Texas before being signed by Cincinnati, only to wind up with the Mets and then the Royals, although he never pitched in the majors with the Mets.

Since reaching the majors in 2001, Standridge has pitched 80 games in the majors - nine of them starts - and has amassed a 5.80 ERA.

After missing the 2008 season, Standridge caught on with Florida last season, but struggled horribly at Triple-A, going 0-0 with a 7.82 ERA in six relief appearances.

Standridge will likely pitch at Triple-A and provide a veteran arm as insurance if they were to run into trouble at the major league level, although he likely won't be their first option for a call-up.
