Was pitching in the independent Central League when he signed with the Phillies. Spent two seasons in the Montreal Expos organization and three in the Dodgers organization.

Originally drafted out of high school by the Cubs in the 48th round of the 1994 Draft, but didn't signed. The Dodgers drafted him four years later in the 24th round of the '98 Draft.
