2007 Season:
Signed by the Cardinals to a one-year deal with the intention of starting, Franklin instead spent the entire season as the team's top set-up man in front of closer Jason Isringhausen. Overall, he posted a 3.04 ERA in 69 appearances. His 25 holds ranked seventh in the National League.
Career Notes:
A 23rd round draft pick of the Seattle Mariners in 1992, Franklin came up to the majors in 1999 and became a full-time starter in 2002. His best season came in 2003 when he put up a 3.57 ERA in 212 innings, making 32 starts. He was suspended for 10 games in 2005 after testing positive for steroids and became a free agent following the season. He pitched exclusively out of the bullpen in 2006 for the Phillies and Reds.
Franklin has compiled a career mark of 45-61 with a 4.25 ERA in 316 games, including 106 games started. He started 30 or more games for the Seattle Mariners from 2003-05 and logged over 200 innings pitched in both 2003 and 2004.
