RP Sergio Escalona: Another trip back to Philadelphia.

Sergio Escalona continues his boomerang act between the Lehigh Valley IronPigs and the Philadelphia Phillies. For the fifth time this season, Escalona has been recalled to fill a hole in the Phillies bullpen.

Escalona takes the roster spot vacated by Antonio Bastardo, who was placed on the DL Monday with a left shoulder strain.

Even with all of his trips to Philadelphia, Escalona has spent just 14 days on the active roster for the big league club, with most of his appearances lasting just a couple of days. Escalona's stay could be short this time as well, since the Phillies will recall a starting pitcher for Thursday's game in Atlanta, to fill the hole in the starting rotation.

Signed as an amateur free agent in May, 2004.

2009 Season
Named the 26th best prospect in the Phillies organization by Philly Baseball News... Recalled by the Phillies on May 16... Optioned to AAA Lehigh Valley on May 23, but was recalled again on May 30th... Returned to Lehigh Valley on June 3rd... On June 13, Escalona was again recalled by the Phillies, but was optioned out a day later after one appearance against Boston... Was again recalled by the Phillies on June 23 when Clay Condrey was placed on the 15 day DL, but was optioned back two days later to make room for Brad Lidge on the Phillies roster... Made his fifth trip back to the Phillies on June 29 when he was again recalled and stayed until July 5 when Scott Eyre returned from the DL... Was sent to AA Reading on July 23.
