Michael Taylor is now just one step away from the majors after being promoted to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Thursday.
Taylor, a 2009 Eastern League All-Star, was putting up big numbers with Double-A Reading, hitting .333-15-65 in 86 games. The 6' 6", 260-pound slugger was leading the Eastern League in hits (106), was second in extra base hits (40), tied for second in runs (59), third in average (.333), RBI (65) and slugging percentage (.569), was fourth in home runs (15) and fifth in stolen bases (18).
Taylor was the Phillies fifth-round pick in 2007 out of Stanford and combined to hit .346-19-88 in 132 games between Low-A Lakewood (.361) and High-A Clearwater (.329) in 2008.
Taylor, who has been a Type-1 diabetic since he was ten years old, came into the season ranked as the ninth best prospect in the Phillies system by Philly Baseball News and was recently chosen by PBN as the top Position Player Prospect in the mid-season update.
