SP Kyle Drabek: Carrasco exits; Drabek could head to AAA. by Chuck Hixson of PhillyBaseballNews.com, July 29, 2009 at 5:31pm ET
Kyle Drabek Profile
So, now that the Cliff Lee deal is sinking in, there's one ramification of the trade that we haven't really dealt with. The Lehigh Valley IronPigs are going to need some new faces on their roster to replace Jason Donald, Lou Marson and oh, yeah, Carlos Carrasco, too. So, who could replace Carrasco?
If everything is right with the world, right about now, Kyle Drabek should be getting directions on how to get from Reading to Coca-Cola Park in Allentown, where the Lehigh Valley IronPigs play. (It's actually an easy drive and I could even pick him up if he needs a ride.)
There would appear to be no reason to hold Drabek back at Double-A anymore. He's not going to be involved in a deal, so there's no concern over whether or not to "showcase" him with Lehigh Valley and he's proven just about all he needs to prove at Reading and perhaps, even more. After starting the season at Clearwater, where he threw 61 2/3 innings, Drabek came to Reading and has thrown 67 2/3 innings with just a slightly higher ERA than he had at Clearwater. With roughly six or seven starts left in his season - unless he's called up to the majors to work out of the bullpen - it's time to get Drabek some time just one step closer to Philadelphia.
