OF Jeremy Slayden: Announces his retirement.

Reading outfielder Jeremy Slayden is calling it quits at the age of 27. Slayden, who played at Triple-A earlier in the season and struggled both offensively and defensively, was sent down to Reading in June and hit .281 in 46 games with the R-Phils.

Slayden's prospect status was slowed by his lack of defensive skills and his offensive struggles at Lehigh Valley this season dragged his prospect status down even further.

Steven Susdorf has been promoted from Clearwater to take Slayden's spot on the Reading roster.
