Paul Hoover Profile

Lehigh Valley IronPigs veteran catcher Paul Hoover will make his way to Philadelphia after being told after Wednesday night's game that the Phillies had purchased his contract.

Hoover was in somewhat of an audition with Tuffy Gosewisch, who was promoted from Double-A Reading about three weeks ago, and won the job.

"When they brought Tuffy here I didn't know what was going to happen," said the veteran Hoover, who has played in the majors with Tampa Bay and Florida. "I figured somebody was going to go up, but didn't know who, and obviously were both trying to play as well as we can to get the call."

Hoover and Gosewisch were splitting the time behind the plate since Gosewisch arrived. In that time, Gosewisch hit .152 (5-for-33) and Hoover hit .229 (8-for-35).

The Phillies will need to make a roster move Thursday to open a spot for Hoover on the 40 man roster. It's possible that pitcher John Ennis will be moved from the 15 day DL to the 60 day DL.
