3B Andy Tracy: Headed to Philly. by Chuck Hixson of PhillyBaseballNews.com, September 9, 2009 at 11:21am ET
Andy Tracy Profile
After watching Andy Tracy hit 26 home runs and drive in 96 for Lehigh Valley, the Phillies have purchased his contract from the IronPigs. Tracy will give the Phillies another left-handed bat off the bench, which is needed because of the prolonged slump by Matt Stairs (0-for-29) and the injury to Greg Dobbs, who is expected to be out at least another week or ten days.
Left-hander Sergio Escalona, who had been up earlier in the season with the Phillies, was recalled to join the bullpen, which is also hampered. The only left-hander in the 'pen, Scott Eyre, has had elbow pain, and is being examined today. J.C. Romero is on the disabled list and has faced setbacks in his rehab, which might cause him to miss the rest of the season.
The Phillies had to clear room on the 40 man roster for Tracy and did so by releasing pitcher Rodrigo Lopez.
