Phillies Add Three 'Pigs to Their Roster

Scott Mathieson

Just a day ago, Vance Worley was dejected and didn't know what the final few days of the minor league season would hold for him. He had been pulled from his final scheduled start after just an inning, which could have signaled that he was headed for Philadelphia and a Monday start against the Florida Marlins. Instead, he was told the early exit was just to "keep their options open."

A day later and Vance Worley got part of his answer. He is in fact headed for Philadelphia, but there's still no decision on whether he'll pitch on Monday. Going with Worley from Lehigh Valley to Philadelphia is Nate Robertson, another candidate to start Monday's game. Robertson isn't on the 40 man roster, so the Phillies will need to create a spot for him, most likely by putting Jamie Moyer on the 60 day DL.

Reliever Scott Mathieson is also headed for the Phillies as part of their bullpen. Mathieson, who set a Lehigh Valley franchise record with 26 saves this season, will give depth to the Phillies bullpen over the last month of the season and potentially position him for a permanent spot with the club next season.

As for Worley and Robertson, both would be physically able to start Monday and it's possible that the two of them could both work in the game for the Phillies.
